Cylinder Pendant Lighting
Single Cylinders, Clusters & Bars

Cylinder pendant lights are the most versatile shape in contemporary lighting. The clean tube form works above a dining table, a kitchen island, a bedside table, or in a hallway — singly, in a cluster, or as a row of tubes on a linear bar. The narrow profile keeps the ceiling uncluttered and directs light downward with precision, which is why it has become the default choice in modern interiors.

All the cylinder pendants here are made in Poland by Sollux — steel construction throughout, powder-coated or material finishes. Available in black, white, concrete, and wood, with metallic accent versions in chrome, copper, and gold.

Three ways to hang a cylinder pendant

The same tube shape works differently depending on how it is suspended. Before choosing a specific range, it is worth deciding which configuration suits the space.

Single cylinder pendants

A single pendant is the most flexible option. One tube on one cord, hanging at a height you set. Use it above a bedside table, in a hallway, over a reading chair, or in a corner that needs a focused light source without a ceiling fitting. Single cylinders also work well in groups of three or four hung at different heights from separate hooks — a composed arrangement that is easier to install than a cluster rose and gives you more control over positioning.

The Lagos single is the most popular starting point — a wider steel cylinder available in black, white, ivory, olive green, red ochre, and polished gold, with an adjustable drop of up to 130cm. The Pastelo single is the slimmer, more refined option in the same colour range. For a concrete finish, the Borgio single combines a steel upper section with a gypsum-concrete lower tube — the material contrast is the design. The Pablo single pairs a black steel tube with a natural wood collar at the ceiling rose — the wood brings warmth to what is otherwise a minimal form.

Other single cylinder options: Wezyr (very slim proportions, black or white), Nova (clean proportions, 30cm and 40cm lengths), Savar (minimal black), Spark (tapered cone form, black or white), Taleja (black or white, E27 and ES111 fitting options).

Cylinder pendant clusters

A cluster groups two, three, four, or five cylinder tubes from a single ceiling rose, each tube hanging on its own cord at a slightly different height. The effect above a dining table or kitchen island is of a composed, architectural arrangement — more visual interest than a single large shade, and more focused light than a wide flush fitting. Clusters work particularly well in rooms with higher ceilings where a single pendant would look lost.

The Lagos 3-light cluster and Pastelo 3-light cluster are the most ordered configurations — three tubes from a round rose in matching or contrasting heights. Both are available in black, white, ivory, olive green, red ochre, and polished gold. For something with more character, the Loopez cluster has a two-tone finish — matte black tube with a chrome, copper, or gold metallic lower section that catches light from below. The Mozaica cluster takes this further with a black tube and a decorative perforated gold mesh lower section that casts a pattern on the ceiling when lit.

For five lights above a large island or long table, the Pastelo 5-light cluster and Lagos 5-light cluster provide the most generous coverage from a single rose.

Bar and linear pendant lights

A bar pendant hangs a row of cylinder tubes from a single horizontal bar rather than individual cords. The bar keeps all the tubes at the same height and the same spacing, which gives a kitchen island or long dining table a precise, considered look. Where a cluster feels organic and composed, a bar feels architectural and deliberate — the right choice for contemporary kitchens and open-plan spaces where clean lines are part of the brief.

The Pastelo 5-light linear bar is the strongest option for a kitchen island — five slim tubes evenly spaced across a 45cm bar in black or white. The Loopez linear bar brings the two-tone metallic finish to the bar format, available in black/chrome, black/copper, and black/gold in 3-light configurations. The Lagos linear bar provides three wider tubes on a bar in the same colour range as the cluster versions.

Bar pendants are also available in the Karbon range as track-mounted versions — useful where you need to reposition the lights along the bar after installation.

Choosing a finish

Black is the most searched finish for good reason — matte black cylinder pendants work against white, grey, green, and dark ceilings equally well, and the contrast between the dark fitting and the warm light below is one of the most effective combinations in contemporary lighting. Most ranges are available in black as standard.

White suits rooms with light palettes where a black pendant would create too strong a contrast. Against a white ceiling a white cylinder recedes during the day and registers only as a light source in the evening. Available across Lagos, Pastelo, Wezyr, Nova, Taleja, and Pablo.

Concrete finishes — available in the Borgio range — combine a steel upper section with a gypsum-concrete lower tube. The raw material aesthetic suits loft, industrial, and raw-material interiors. Available in black/concrete and white/concrete combinations.

Wood collars — available in the Pablo and Lino ranges — pair a steel tube with a natural wood section at the ceiling rose or mid-tube. The wood brings warmth to a format that is usually all-metal, and suits Scandi, natural material, and contemporary interiors where a plain steel pendant would feel too cold.

Metallic accents — the Loopez and Mozaica ranges add chrome, copper, or gold to the lower section of a black tube. The two-tone combination adds warmth and character without committing to a fully metallic fitting.

Colours — Lagos, Pastelo, and Karbon are available in ivory, olive green, and red ochre in addition to black and white. These suit natural material interiors and rooms where a plain finish would be too expected.

Practical notes

Drop height: Most cylinder pendants here have a maximum drop of 100-130cm from ceiling to base. The cable is adjustable — set the height during installation. Above a dining table, aim for 75-90cm between the base of the pendant and the table surface. Above a kitchen island, 80-100cm works for most worktop heights.

Bulb fitting: Most cylinders use G9 or GU10 fittings. G9 bulbs are small capsule bulbs that sit inside the tube; GU10 are the standard bayonet spotlight bulbs that project from the base. A small number of ranges use E27 (standard screw fitting). Check the product listing for the specific fitting before ordering. LED bulbs are compatible throughout.

IP rating: Most cylinder pendants here are rated IP20 — suitable for dry rooms only. Not suitable for direct bathroom installation above a bath or shower. Check individual product listings if you are planning a bathroom installation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a cylinder pendant and a tube pendant?

They are the same thing — both terms describe a pendant light with a hollow cylindrical shade. Cylinder pendant and tube pendant are used interchangeably in the UK market.

How many cylinder pendants do I need above a dining table?

A 3-light cluster covers most dining tables up to 160cm in length. For longer tables — 180-220cm — a 5-light cluster or a linear bar gives better coverage. For a square table, a 3-light cluster from a round rose works well. For a rectangular table, a linear bar keeps the spacing even.

Can I use cylinder pendants in a bathroom?

Most cylinder pendants here are rated IP20 and are not suitable for zones 1 or 2 in a bathroom (directly above a bath or shower, or within 60cm of one). They can be used in zone 3 (more than 60cm from a water source) if the ceiling height is sufficient. Check the product listing for the specific IP rating before ordering.

What bulb do cylinder pendant lights use?

It depends on the range. Lagos and most wider cylinders use GU10. Pastelo, Wezyr, and the slimmer ranges use G9. Pablo and Lino use GU10. Check the individual product listing — the fitting type is listed in the specifications. All are LED compatible.
