Brass Lighting UK | Mullan Collection

Solid brass lighting handcrafted in Ireland — wall lights, pendants, ceiling lights, table lamps and outdoor fittings built to last generations. The Mullan Collection has been made to order in Ireland since 2009, using genuine solid brass throughout. Never plated. Never mass-produced. Available in antique brass that develops a rich natural patina over time, aged brass with subtle weathered character, and polished brass for traditional refinement.

Why Choose Solid Brass Lighting?

Brass is the most enduring material in British lighting history — used in Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian homes for good reason. It is genuinely durable, develops natural character over decades, and gives a quality of warm reflected light that painted metal or chrome cannot match. Solid brass will outlast the room it sits in. Plated brass will not.

All Mullan fittings use solid brass throughout — not a brass coating over cheaper metal. The difference is visible in the weight, the finish, and how the material ages. Unlacquered finishes darken naturally over time, deepening to rich antique tones. Lacquered finishes hold their original polish indefinitely. Both are valid choices depending on the look you want and how much character you want the fitting to develop.

Made to order in Ireland, most fittings take 15–21 working days. Built to last generations.

Brass Lighting for Bathrooms

Solid brass is one of the few materials that genuinely thrives in a bathroom environment. It does not rust. It does not degrade in humidity. Over time, it develops deeper character in the conditions that would damage cheaper alternatives.
All Mullan bathroom brass fittings are IP-rated for safe use in wet areas.

Brass Bathroom Pendants
IP65 solid brass pendant lights rated for Zone 1 use — safe directly above baths and showers. Industrial cage designs, traditional dome shades and vintage schoolhouse styles.
The only pendant material that genuinely improves with bathroom humidity rather than deteriorating.

Brass Lighting for Kitchens

Brass has a long history in kitchen lighting — the material is hard-wearing, handles heat and steam well, and gives warm reflected light above worktops that painted metal does not.
Mullan’s kitchen brass range focuses on practical working light as much as appearance.

Kitchen Brass Wall Lights
Swan neck, gooseneck, adjustable arm and industrial cage styles for kitchens. Long curved arms that reach over worktops and sinks where flat-bracket fittings would not extend far enough.
Adjustable versions let you redirect light after fitting — useful where needs change or a fixed position does not work perfectly.

Brass Finishes Explained

Antique Brass — unlacquered finish that develops a rich, darkening patina over time. The most traditional choice for period properties. Character deepens with age.

Aged Brass (or natural brass) — starts with a pre-weathered appearance, subtle and warm. Less dramatic than antique brass but with the same natural character. Suits both period and contemporary interiors.

Polished Brass — bright, lacquered finish that maintains its original lustre indefinitely. The most formal option. Traditional and imposing in equal measure.

Satin Brass – a matt finish to the brass, for a more subtle finish.

All four finishes use identical solid brass construction — the difference is surface treatment only, not material quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is solid brass better than brass-plated fittings?

Significantly. Brass plating is a thin coating over cheaper metal — usually steel or zinc — that wears through over time, chips at edges, and cannot be restored. Solid brass is the same material all the way through. It can be polished, left to patina naturally, and will outlast plated alternatives by decades. All Mullan fittings are solid brass throughout.

Will brass lighting tarnish?

Unlacquered brass develops a natural patina — a gradual darkening that most people consider an improvement rather than a problem. This is the same process that gives antique brass its character. Lacquered finishes prevent this and maintain the original polish indefinitely. If you want a consistent look that does not change, choose polished brass. If you want a fitting that develops character over time, choose antique or aged.

Is brass lighting suitable for bathrooms?

Yes — solid brass is one of the best materials for bathroom lighting. It does not rust and performs well in humid conditions. All Mullan bathroom fittings carry IP44 or IP65 ratings for safe use in wet areas. IP65 fittings are rated for Zone 1 directly above baths and showers.

How long does Mullan brass lighting take to deliver?

Mullan fittings are made to order in Ireland. Brass and glass finishes typically take 15–21 working days before dispatch. UK delivery is free on orders over £60.

Can brass lighting work in a modern interior?

Yes. Aged and antique brass in particular suit contemporary interiors well — the warmth of the metal contrasts effectively with modern materials like concrete, painted plaster and natural stone. Many of our customers use Mullan brass fittings in new-build and renovated properties alongside modern kitchens and bathrooms.
Many of the brass fixtures are modern in style, ideal for the modern home.

Are Mullan Light Guaranteed?

Absolutely, all Mullan light fixtures have a 5 year warranty against poor workmanship or materials (LED mirrors is 2 years)
