Kitchen Ceiling Lights

Kitchen ceiling lights need to work harder than lights in other rooms — they’re on for longer, in a space where heat, steam, and grease are part of daily life, and they need to provide enough light to work by as well as look considered. The fittings here divide into two groups: flush and semi-flush ceiling fittings suited to standard ceiling heights, and modern multi-arm and cluster fittings that give multiple light sources from a single ceiling point.

The flush and semi-flush range is mostly from Mullan Lighting, handmade in Ireland. The Mono, Calix, Hanoi, and Erbil use Holophane prismatic glass — the moulded glass refracts light evenly across a wide area without glare, which makes it a particularly good choice for kitchen task lighting. The Geneva is an industrial cage fitting in brass, 30cm diameter. The Apoch is a smaller flush cage. The Jam Jar flush uses a genuine Le Parfait glass jar. The Marrakesh is an Art Deco double-dish design in brass. The San Jose is a three-arm flush chandelier, useful where a pendant would hang too low but a single flush fitting wouldn’t give enough coverage. The Kauri is a handmade ceramic dome ceiling light from Mullan’s studio — the same made-to-order ceramic quality as the ceramic wall light range, allow 4–6 weeks. The Evanston is Mullan’s directional brass spotlight fitting, available as a dual or three-head, useful for directing light across a kitchen worktop or island.

The modern cluster and multi-arm range is from Sollux, made in Poland. These give two to six light sources from a single ceiling rose, which makes them practical in kitchens where a single pendant would leave dark spots. The Karbon multi-arm uses the same corrugated tube design as the Karbon wall and pendant lights — available in black, white, ivory, and gold, in three and four-arm configurations. The Loop, Winx, Artemis, Savar, Levar, and Norah are arm chandelier styles in various configurations. The wooden ceiling lights — Ember, Feniks, Woody, Verdo, and Lappo — use natural wood arms with a cleaner, more organic look.

All Mullan lights are assembled to order in Ireland — allow 15–21 working days (4–6 weeks for ceramic fittings). Sollux lights are often in stock, or 5- 10 days.
